December 17, 2011 at 8:09 am
Hi I am proud of having Sylvanna being my couch during all my pregnancy mostly during birth. She supported me for 48hrs and encouraged me a lot during my daughter’s birth. Me and my husband learned lot of hints from her workshops. If she was not there I am sure of not having a natural birth.

December 17, 2011 at 6:29 pm
For being passionate about natural birth and breastfeeding, for making it normal to be at home, relaxed and in control while giving birth in the face of a culture of intervention and distrust in what women can do. And, above all, for being alongside me for the birth of both my babies at home.
December 17, 2011 at 8:12 pm

I’d like to say huge thanks to everyone who works so hard for good birth and everything that covers – mothers, fathers and babies. Whilst I’ve only personally benefited from the services of one of these nominees, I think everyone who has been nominated – and lots of others who haven’t – deserve massive praise for everything they do.
December 18, 2011 at 6:57 pm
virginia howes was my wonderful midwife with 2 of my children and supported me all threw
December 18, 2011 at 9:02 pm
Virginia Howes came into our world ten years ago, she has delivered all three of my children, even when I was told they were far too large!. I had good experiences and felt empowered as a woman and as a mother. But also their father did too, which always makes me laugh when he states it was a walk in the park.
She also has designed a birth mirror which has also enhanced the experience for all involved, she is a very passionate midwife and could give many government some good advice on maternity care.
December 18, 2011 at 9:02 pm
Stephanie has a beautiful, serene, and uplifting thought which pervades her work and her DVD. Her concept of the rhythm and natural unfolding of the birth is truly inspired and important for the ultimate goal of a harmonious delivery. Her peaceful and positive approach along with her understanding of the naturalness of the birthing process is a huge help and encouragement to expectant women everywhere. I am voting for her because her work is very important as well as being very good. Because she will bless many, her approach and her work should be more widely known.
December 18, 2011 at 10:46 pm

December 19, 2011 at 2:28 am
hi, i had the pleasure of seeing dr vijaya krishnan in action when my friend s child came in for delivery. Earlier and with no family being present she was her family friend and care taker until family reached. Thank you dr vijaya. I know I have every intention of being in your care as a new mother at ‘early 35/36…or what ever age i conceive and know its going to be a natural birth process’. Love ya.
December 19, 2011 at 5:52 am
I have never seen a woman so commited to a cause like Priyanka…. Way to go, girl, n hope you win!
December 19, 2011 at 7:00 am
I would nominate Vijaya Krishnan as she helped many moms experience ‘Informed’ and wonderful birthing experience in Hyderabad (India) where the C-Section rate is approximately 70%. The reason why I mentioned ‘Informed’ is because, she conducts wonderful Lamaze classes for expectant moms and explains them clearly the beauty of nature (such as baby decides when it needs to come out ; how ‘trial of labor’ is really important for mom and baby ; significance of the liquid gold “Colostrum”; importance of breast feeding ; mom and baby bonding right from birth ; delayed cord clamping ; delayed baby bath so that the babies skin could absorb all the vermix ; various natural postures for birthing ; massage techniques by birth partners ; postpartum care ).
December 19, 2011 at 7:35 am

December 21, 2011 at 3:22 am
Its Vijaya Krishnan only from my side. She’s such a wonderful person that you can never feel negative with her around. She’s always there for the moms-to-be with utmost love & care and to find find one such person entirely committed towards you outside you family and friends is a real boon. She’s the one actually told me what a pregnancy would be like, how it would feel to be a mom n a child too and what all might come in the way of the process of Pregnancy and Delivery and all through my delivery she was my God sent Angel. To vote for her feels like voting to the very concept call Normal Birth. She’s my ispiration and she deserves this award more than anyone else. Love you Vijaya and guys you’ll ner regret voting for her, I repeat never……….

The Lazy Daisy chain – Julie Long has been a great inspiration for empowering me to empower other women in birth. She is tirelessly ensuring that women all over the country are getting superbly trained mentors thereby reaching thousands of women and enriching their lives. Thanks to her dream women all over can enjoy and embrace their births with pride.
December 21, 2011 at 10:26 am
Priyanka, you have ignited a revolution in childbirth in Kerala…

Lazy Daisy Birthing – Julie Long
I have never known anyone so passionate about pregnancy and birth as Julie. Her approach towards preparing your body ready for birth is really inspiring as choice is truly promoted and no one is excluded. With classes appearing nationwide i’m so proud to be a part of the Lazy Daisy family and to be able to help Julie in promoting positive birthing.
December 21, 2011 at 3:00 pm
Excellent Vijaya. Very happy & pleased to see your name here.
December 21, 2011 at 7:55 pm
I’m voting for Julie Long, founder of The Lazy Daisy Chain, which is the fastest growing birth preparation method in the UK. I’ve only been teaching for 3 weeks, but I love teaching the classes and helping ladies to feel relaxed, confident, knowledgeable and empowered about their births. Julie really is passionate about helping women to be as prepared as possible to achieve the birth they want – THEIR birth and I’m proud to be part of that in my own small way. Even through a difficult time, Julie has continued to support her teachers – she is truly dedicated.
December 21, 2011 at 8:35 pm
as a friend and colleague of Lisa barrett i can only say that i am in awe of her strength and tenacity in the face of adversity. Standing up for a woman’s right to choose here in Australia is a dangerous thing to do. Personally and professionally. Unwavering in her dedication and love for this cause and what it means for all women i vote for Lisa barrett today.
December 21, 2011 at 10:20 pm
I vote for Julie Long-Founder of The Lazy Daisy Chain. Not only has she developed a programme that empowers women and encourages them to listen to thier birth intuition; she is empowering mothers (myself included) to help others have the birth they want, giving us the opportunity to build a career as a working mother and draw on our own birthing experiences. The whole philosophy of Lazy Daisy is based upon bringing women together as a (peer) supportive community, going back to grass-roots, re-defining the process of birth as a beautiful, natural, process. The beauty of the programme lies in it’s inclusivity. Whilst women are prepared for natural birth the emphasis is empowering them on thier journey, helping them to feel a part of it, so that whatever the final outcome they have a positive birth experience. What a wonderful gift to be able to give! Thanks to Julie I have ladies coming to me every week to share thier inspiring birth stories. I feel honoured I can be part of thier journey and to spread the Lazy Daisy message.
December 21, 2011 at 11:03 pm
Lazy Daisy Birthing – Julie Long
Julie is a truly an inspirational person. Her passion and enthusiasm for inspiring confidence in women and educating them about active birth so that they can have positive birth experiences is outstanding. Not only has she inspired me and given me a new passion in life, to teach Lazy Daisy Classes and impart my knowledge to other women but in doing so I have received so so many positive bith stories from women. Knowing that so many women have had such a positive experience for pregnancy and also labour and that they have enjoyed this momentous experience is truly amazing. I can’t say enough about Julie as both a teacher, business woman and also a person. She is truly an inspiration and I am very proud to be a part of her team.
December 21, 2011 at 11:24 pm

Becky had an unbelievably calming, confidence-giving, positive influence on myself and husband… her support definitely contributed to such a fantastic natural labour xxx
December 22, 2011 at 10:54 am
I really appreciate the work Maha Al Musa has put into combining birthing and belly dance. I’ve known Maha since we had babies at the same time. I saw Maha’s passion for her culture and the way women worked together using dance to prepare for birth. My wife used maha’s techniques and it was very helpful. I really can’t say enough good about Maha as I’ve seen how she has carried on after having her own children working with women to find new ways to combine the old knowledge with what we do today.
December 22, 2011 at 12:14 pm
Why is Lisa Barrett listed twice?? But other than that, I voted for her. Such strength in adversity!
December 22, 2011 at 1:22 pm
Thanks for pointing out that Lisa Barrett is listed twice. Ooops, sorry, that is totally my mistake – you’re the first one to point it out! I can’t remove one of the “Lisa Barrett’s” as the voting poll is live, but I’ll make sure that I count both sets of votes for Lisa in the final tally. Thanks again, Toni (co-creator, One World Birth and voting adjudicator!)
December 22, 2011 at 2:34 pm
An amazing lady that has achieved so much and changed so many lives – thank you Julie
December 22, 2011 at 2:02 pm
A vote for my friend Rebecca Bates because of her inspiration to me to become a doula myself. Now that i have gone on to attend births myself, i can’t thank her enough!
December 22, 2011 at 2:17 pm
You all deserve to win and you have already won just by being providers of great midwifery care but I am going to vote for the lovely Julie Long.
December 22, 2011 at 7:25 pm
This is a wondeful idea and everyone should win! Congratulations to all the nominees. I would like to make special mention of Maha who’s work I have personally experienced. She is a total pioneer and wonderful mentor and advocate for birth and the arab tradition of belly dancing. thank you for sharing this with the world, making it accessible and helping so many thousands of women feel empowered through bellydance in birth.
December 22, 2011 at 11:52 pm
I vote for Lisa Barrett. She is an amazing person and was there for me and my family during the growth of my bubba and the labour. She was also there holding my hand when it all turned upside down. Thankyou Lisa, from the bottom of my heart.
December 23, 2011 at 3:21 am
Dr Vijaya Krishnan is wonderful midwife with whom I gave birth to a wonderful son a year ago. She stands out in the mad medical industry of birthing and keeps empowering women by standing with time when they are going through the life changing experience. She is one of the very few who are propagating natural birthing in this part of the world.
December 23, 2011 at 4:20 am
Rebecca Bates is a calming influence at a time when you need it most. Her knowledge of alternative treatments is wide and well-researched and her recommendations worked a treat. I have another grandchild on the way and I know that, with Becky holding mum’s hand, everything will go smoothly – can’t wait!
December 23, 2011 at 6:47 am
Thank you all for your best services towards mother and baby care. You all deserve this award, but this vote to Dr.Vijaya is to convey my pleasure of being a happy father of healthy twin girls born at their birth centre.
December 23, 2011 at 8:18 am
Maha Al Musa was so wonderful during the natural birth of my son Jacka. As soon as she arrived she encouraged me to breathe and dance into the sensations and with 5 more contractions of middle eastern dancing he was ready to be born. She showed me I could really trust my birthing body and to work with the pain as my friend bringing my closer to the birthing moment. After my first born was 60 hours her presence was so comforting and supportive. Maha has worked tirelessly to support the natural birth movements fir as ling as I have known her when we were both pregnant with our first born 15 years ago. I recommend Maha and her unique style of support using dance to assist the process of birthing. Thank you Maha for helping me trust my body. Ebony Purnell

December 23, 2011 at 7:00 pm
Julie’s passion for sharing her vision of a relaxed and empowered birth has seen Lazy Daisy grow from Julie conducting classes to small groups of expectant mothers, where she individually saw over 1500 women during a two year period, receiving numerous commendations and thank you letters, to a thriving nation wide business where Julie now instructs birth mentors to deliver Julie’s vision to an ever widening audience. Julie has done this, virtually single handed and at the same time has been a wonderful wife and mother to our 5 children. I can think of a no more deserving nominee. You’re a truly amazing and inspirational woman and I am incredibly proud of all you have achieved.
December 23, 2011 at 7:21 pm
My vote is firmly with Julie Long for her amazing work with Daisy Birthing. The 1000′s of women she has helped to have relaxed confident births and the many many testimonials speak for themselves!
